Default Managing your Cables (if you still carry any)

    Guys,

What do you use to manage your cables in your bags? I know some of you already did away with them by getting into the wireless bandwagon, BT, WiFi, Cordless stuff.

Unfortunately, there are still some items that cant go wireless like power cable, usb/firewire cables, earphones, graphic tablet, and some other stuff.

Almost all of these have metallic ends, so in some careless moment or rush, these get to grind and scratch with some other gears (im pretty sure your Tibooks are already in their sleeves so there is nothing to worry about them).

So how do you prevent cable spaghetti in your carrying cases? Some bags kasi they dont have as much cable compartments, and some cables are just too damn thick.

This is mostly for those folks who bring more than just their ibks and tbks.

    Thanks

I haven't found a solution. I'm still hoping Smartwrap makes its way to stores here soon. If any of you guys know of a similar product available locally, please post it here.

I will not resort to rubberbands or those twisty thingies! :P

I just implemented this a couple of days ago. I got tired of getting my wires tangled whenever I pull out one of them. It's very lo-fi. I use resealable freezer bags. Hehe, that's right. I put all ac adapters and an ethernet cable in one. I have all the AV cables and monitor adapters in another. I have my webcam and mini-tripod in another. My main AC adapter/cable remains loose in the bag since I use it often.

Twist ties! I also find 3.5" diskette plastic boxes useful for preventing damage to the cables themselves.

Pouches are a good way of keeping cables organized. I use a black nylon zip pouch purchased from Muji in Hong Kong. You can organize this in two ways: a pouch for each device (iPod, digicam, etc.) with all its cables and accessories, resulting in several small pouches. Or you could have one large pouch with all the cables and accessories that you use. Day to day, I prefer having the smaller pouches, but when travelling, I put all my cables and accessories in one big pouch. Even better would be one in a transparent plastic so you can see its contents. I would imagine finding something like that at the local shop, Anonymous.

I try to purchase retractable cables for all my cables, as they eliminate 'cable spaghetti' I've got a retractable firewire, ethernet, and iPod cable. With almost everything else, I've gone wireless (mouse, keyboard, headphones).

Now if only I could get power to my laptop wirelessly... :P

I use the toiletry case given by the airline when flying first/business class. It's roomy enough to fit all my adapters and cables yet small enough to take up limited space in my bag.

In the old mapalad mailing list, there is this joke about wireless charging (bluetooth charging kuno) - what if your palm (here, more apt for iPod) is in your pants pocket? and the charge goes wayward? youch! he he he.

Still, in a year or two, laptops may have to go micro fuel cell. You dont need to charge, all you need is a drop or a couple of drops of 100% methanol alcohol, and your gear charged for a full 24 hours, at least. I just dunno if apple is going into that direction as well. For handhelds and cell, it will charge daw a whole months' supply of power.

Here's a link to the prototype presentation of the micro fuel cell.

As for the cables, I think I'm gonna have to put aside those P100 shade's pouch. looks like a good option for storing loose cables.
