K700i Software update
R2F is available today at SESS (not sure about Smartnet). Major bug fixes, I am told, but I still can't find any documentation in the web.
EDIT: I heard them wrong over the phone. The firmware is R2L001. I just had my phone upgraded and will post my observations in the coming days.

Are the bold dates in calendar back with the upgrades?
I upgraded mine to R2E and the bold calendar dates with appointments are gone, bummer...
Just called the HK SE center and they said that HK only has the R2J as the latest copy over here...

Here's what I gathered from different users in other forums:
software version: R2L001 improvements
• brighter backlight
• simplified chinese sms imput
• enhanced battery life
• improved bluetooth connection
• Light dims in any menu item after a few seconds of non-use (just like a power save on the Mac).
• Contacts can now be edited inside a created group
• Images in slide show are now full screen, regardless of rotation.
• Time stamps on all call logs (including missed calls)
• possible now to toggle languages and numbers (using the * and # keys) when entering/editing phonebook entries.
• smoother video playback
• more precise battery indicator
• faster image browsing
• new animated icon when accessing web, whether from built-in browser or using the phone as a bluetooth modem
The first four are official claims by SE.

WOW! Thanks Elbert...
I guess that's another 4 - 6 hrs of queueing for me this weekend again...

This version of firmware (R2L001) does seem to have a noticeable effect on battery life. I finally got my replacement phone (a brand new unit from Sony Ericsson since they fuc .. er, fouled up my last firmware upgrade) yesterday, and I charged it overnight. I've been using it normally since 8am this morning (voice calls, a couple of dozen texts, BT link w my PowerBook for a while, but no Java games or camera use) and as of this writing, 7:47pm, the battery indicator still shows a little over half a "tank of gas" remaining.
With the old firmware, by now I'd be at 1/4 charge, maybe even less?

Where is the upgrade available?

Vic and I got our upgrade from SESS on Herrera street (it's on the left side when coming down from Ayala, before Legazpi street). You should be able to get the software upgrade from Smartnet and Semicon as well. The upgrade process takes a few minutes only.
