    Default k700 firmware update

Apparently if you have a pc and a docking station ,you don't need to go to a SE
service center to update the firmware of your k700. You can now do it at home. All you need is desk stand (dss 20 or 25) and a download from this site: http://www.sonyericsson.com/updateservice/K700/frameset.htm

What is required to run the update service?
An internet connected PC. Preferably broadband, but it is also possible to use a modem connection.
A DSS-20 or a DSS-25 desk stand installed and connected to your PC.
    A fully charged battery.
At least a PC with a Pentium 133Mhz and 32 MB RAM, or more.

Why can not the device be updated via Bluetooth or Infrared?
The update service updates the entire software, including for instance Bluetooth. This makes it impossible to use Bluetooth or Infrared as media for device software updates.

What happens to user data, applications and settings during update?
No user content is affected during an update.

How long does it take to update a K700?
    It depends on the circumstances.
Assumption: you have the desk stand with driver installed and at least a 0.5 Mbit internet connection.
    Best case:
Downloading the device software: 7 minutes.
The actual update: less than 10 minutes.
Going through the service: 10 minutes.
    Altogether: roughly 27 minutes.
    Worst case:
Download and install the update service PC-client: 10 minutes.
Downloading the device software: 7 minutes
The actual update of the device software: 18 minutes.
Going through the service: 10 minutes.
    Altogether: roughly 45 minutes.

The above was taken from the k700 users group at yahoo. I can't find any feedback from anyone who has actually done this upgrade though.

Argh. Of course, the irony of it is that we're all Mac users

Does this mean that there's new firmware out, btw?

Wonderful! Any link to the detailed description of R2E11? Can't find it on esato or mobile9.com.

What is the current firmware of the k700i? I'd be passing by Sony Ericsson SM North and see if they upgrade there already. Thanks for the heads up, Amont!

Just called up Memo Xpress/Sony Ericsson Center at SM North Edsa Cyberzone. They indeed have the new firmware already but they have yet to test it. They said that tomorrow would be the best time to call them. I will try and get updates for those who reside or work nearby.

Just bought the DSS-25 from the SE shop... in the office waiting for my K700i to be fully charged and try it out... *fingers crossed*
