HELP! My belkin car charger fried my ipods battery!
Hello,
I recently purchased a Belkin car charger for my Ipod. When I first plugged-in my ipod in my car, I noticed it the battery to heat up pretty quickly and suddenly my ipod's screen went blank. I also smelled something that was burning! I panicked and quickly unplugged my ipod and decided to just charge it using the regular power adapter. When I used my ipod again, the battery lasted for only 30 minutes!!! Did anyone experience anything the same with a Belikin car charger? Too bad, my ipod's only less than a month old and this had to happen!
Also, where do you think can I have my ipod repaired the fastest? Does the powermac center in Megamall accept warranty repairs for ipods? I also heard that there's an apple service center along P. Guevarra. Can I go directly there to have my ipod repaired? Many thanks!

Whoah!
This is what you can do: Try to have the warranty thing of your iPod cover for the damages OR try to have the store where you got your Belkin car charger pay for the damages OR file a lawsuit against Belkin for this mishap.
Of course the first option's the only rational one. ^_^
Quick repair... I don't think there's such a thing as a quick repair but they will do the best they can to have it repaired asap at powermac or whereever you got your iPod from.

Yeah, i'd like to sue Belkin for this! I bought my ipod last month when I was in the states that's why I can't bring it back to where I originally purchased it from anymore. Same goes with the Belkin charger... Anyway, just a tip for you guys... stick to charging your ipods thru your mac or regular power adapter. It's good practice and will probably make your batteries last longer. And of course, DON'T BUY THAT BELKIN CHARGER!

i don't know if the warranty will hold up because you used a third party product., and to add to that the charger wasn't purchased here. Though it won't hurt to ask.
good luck!

I will suggest this one.
Write an email letter to Belkin regarding what happened and what the situation was. Place the purchase receipts and all.
And try to be as professional as you can be in making the email.
Who knows, they might give you a new ipod or any restitution for the problem

iPods aren't repaired. They are replaced with refurbs. That is, if your iPod is still covered by warranty (1 year from date of purchase).
You don't have to sue Belkin. I think it's too much of a hassle for you. You can always e-mail their tech support and complain about what happened. They should be willing to replace both iPod and charger Just be firm and demand this. For all you know, Belkin will be willing to give you other products to make it up to you (wishful thinking).
Otherwise, just claim Apple warranty and have your iPod replaced. Of course, you'll have difficulty claiming warranty if you admit that it got fried by the Belkin charger. I would just keep mum about it if I were you. Your iPod warranty should be honored by any authorized Apple iPod reseller (here and abroad). You don't have to claim it from the store you purchased it from. Just have a copy of the receipt ready.
Your Belkin product is covered by warranty too, you can go back to the store you purchased it from and have it replaced.

Thanks guys... Yeah, i'll just most probably claim the warranty from powermac. Though I'll still write an e-mail to belkin anyway about this bec. this really is scary if they have some defective chargers out there. The car where I plugged my ipod in was a 2003 Expedition. :wound:

Been using an XtremeMac Car Charger for the iPod for two years now. So far, so good! No problems whatsoever!
