Cannon Powershot A95: Pros & Cons -- Also, Fuji FinePix 450
Hi fellow PhilMUGgers! I am interested in purchasing the Cannon Powershot A95. I was just wondering if anybody out there has an opinion on this camera. I've read alot of the reviews online and they sound very favorable, but iI was hoping maybe there were actual users in here. It's a 5.3 MP camera. One thing that bothers me is that I have to buy a NiMH rechargealbe battery unless I want to use 2 AA Alkaline batteries (NOT!). The best NiMH battery out there is the Maha PowerEx 2300 which goes for $40. Plus I'd have to get better memory card which brings the price of the camera up. I can get the A95 for $260, which is an awesome deal in my opinion.
Believe it or not, I was even interested in going for the Fuji Fine Pix 450 (5.3 MP), because I was leaning towards a compact camera, one that would fit inside my pocket. What are your opinions of that camera? The Fine Pix 450 got great reviews for a compact 5MP category. What do ya think?
In the end, I think I'm going to sacrifice the size and go for a better camera in the Powershot A95. It's got more functions and greater control. I'm gonna go out and check them both out in the stores, so I can get a feel for it.
By the way, my compact camera the Olympus Stylus 3.2MP is garbage. I won't ever buy Olympus again, especially the ones with the sliding door mechanism. If you're not careful, those things just come off. I've only had that camera 2 years and I had to replace the sliding door, which cost my like P3500. Now the camera is broken again, which is an internal problem and it cost about P5000 to repair. Screw that!
Anyways, please offer up and opinions about the Cannon or the Fuji. I know there are a lot of Cannon users out there.

hey potemkin! is there anything you don't like about the A95camera??? what kind of battery source do you use?? give me some CONs about the camera too. i just want to know if I can deal with the CONs and hype up the PROs. heheheee!!! Every camera has its PROS and CONS anyway.
btw, what did it cost you? what kind of accessories (case, etc.) did you get for your A95???
thanks for the quick response.

actually, i dont own one. it was just one of the cameras i was choosing from. i got the powershot s500. its also 5 megapixels but its smaller and it has its own batteries. which i really did not like about the a95. plus the s500 kind of fitted my needs more at the time. i wanted soemthing that would fit my pocket and would be able to capture nice candid things from my daily commute.

cool! i just got back from checking out the Cannon Powershot A95, its pretty nice! i started checking out other cameras since the stores i went to had many on display. i wish i could have turned it on, so i could browse through the menu...oh well! the camera fits nicely in the palm of my hand. as i already new, its not exactly a compact camera that i could throw in my pocket, but if it's in my backpack along with my powerbook...it's not a problem. i think the quality of pictures will make up for the bulkiness.
guys, what's a good NiMH battery for the A95 (needs 4 AA)??? let me know.
later.

Hey cr8zy, slight correction. It's Canon, not Cannon.
I thought it was a typo, but you kept repeating it. Magagalit sa iyo si Lesley.

The use of AA batteries can actually be a pro. Think about it: NiMH rechargeables are way cheaper than proprietary LiON rechargeables; there are lots of options to choose from; availability is less of a problem; and you can use regular available-almost-everywhere alkalines if you run out of juice from your rechargeables. Not possible if your digicam uses proprietary batts. ;-)
GP and Sanyo rechargeables are pretty good. Pretty inexpensive, too. For the best prices, go to Hidalgo. And don't forget to buy a fast charger with a trickle charge function.

I use NiMh batts, GP are the best, and I have a whole slew of generics. Having all these as backup is quite reassuring instead of relying on the prop LiON batts of other digicams.
My Leica/Fuji Digilux 4.3 uses NiMh but says it cannot use Alkaline batts (not enough amps I guess) nor the newer non rechargeable batts.
Cheers,
PS: edit your thread title and put in the right "Canon" spelling or else Adel the superMod will 'bite' you !:lol:
