About LinkBacksmy almost 4-year old USB scanner, a Umax Astra 2100U, now produces scans with vertical yellow bands. Since a month or two ago, this irritating yellow discoloration is increasing in area and spoiling my images.
surfed around and theories on causes run from dirty internal mirrors to the need to reset the scanner. has anyone had this problem? any success in fixing it?

Ey Didi,
Surprised you managed to get that Umax scanner to last that long. Dirty lens or laser or something, not worth the fix unless you know someone who can get in and clean.
Naah, toss and get a new scanner (the Epson perfections are said to be very excellent according to a very demanding artist pal). It's time. Manila air is sooo dusty, hate to see the condition of our lungs.

ok Cherrie, you just confirmed it --- was already scanning scanner prices at Villman online. Have kept the Umax protected with a plastic cover since i know how dust is its enemy but well, it did its time.

Ya, looks like your scanner's ccd is dying na. honestly don't know how you managed to keep it functioning properly for this long. In any case, I'm sure sulit na yan!
Check HMR also over on pioneer. Got a great deal there on a surplus epson scanner. Sometimes you can find some printers and scanners tucked away there.
