Adidas Creates First 'Smart Shoe'

In a first of sorts, Adidas has come up with an intelligent shoe that adjusts the heel cushion according to input from an embeded computer chip. From CNN:

"The microprocessor is located in the arch of the shoe, and drives a tiny screw and cable system that adjusts the heel cushion depending on the signals sent back by an electric sensor coupled to a magnet.

It is powered by a battery that conserves power by adjusting the shoe while it is in the air during a runner's stride, avoiding resistance from the ground."

Price for all this geeky goodness? $250.00.

i think this is goin a lil bit overboard.. but then again.. if it can shave fractions of a second off a runner's lap time.. who knows?

just learned about it over lunch today from my half Korean/half Pinoy pamangkin who arrived last night from Austin, Texas for her first visit here. She works as an apprentice for Bluetooth (yup, the standard), and she told me about it when i mentioned to her how i imagined bluetooth might be helpful somehow in a gym, and my wish for a cheaper, iPod mas-mini just for walking/jogging. Hmm, if a mini-mini iPod had bluetooth, what else might it tell you via blueshoe?!?
