one of the cool, new features that the latest firmware offers is iTunes Store. lets you preview (30 secs) songs before you download them. you can search by genre, you can browse the top 10, and you can automatically see what songs and albums are featured for the day.

it is so convenient! no more need for syncing with the mac's itunes to upload/download your favorites into the iPhone.

is it safe now to do it? I got my 1.02 unlocked & work without a glitch, so have no experience in unlocking nor anything,
any dummies guide to upgrade?

One very cool feature with the 1.1 firmware is that you can now use Gmail's IMAP feature. Your messages will stay marked as "read" when you check your email using your iPhone. This is the single reason why I upgraded my iPhone to 1.1. Before, I have to mark every email as "read" after I download it from my iPhone. This is way too much hassle. With upgrade, all my read and unread emails are now synced.

Another nice feature is that Safari is a lot more stable after the upgrade. Prior to the update, Safari frequently crashes when browsing websites.

Another cool feature for me is the developer mode in Safari. I can now check my sites for html, javascript, and css errors. That's a big benefit for me since I develop web applications...

Funnily enough, after all the bells and whistles that 1.1.1 has to offer, the new feature I use most is the ability to type a ü to use as a smiley!

the overall feel of the OS is that its much faster and more stable. The double tap to get a period is very nifty too. The music store can get very addictive. Home button double click is very useful to bring up iPod controls. 1.0.2 feels like a beta OS after you get used to 1.1.1
