no SIM just means that doesn't it? that it doesn't have a sim inserted....whether it's unlocked or not...we can't know

That's the point of the photo I believe. Somebody SEEMS to have made the iPhone work in its other functionalities even without a SIM, or without an activated SIM. Maybe the hackers are indeed getting close to nirvana. Let's pray for success in their journey.
