What's the first thing to do with the new 16gb ipod touch?
hi fellow philmuggers,
im back again.lolz and i need your help, specially to the ipod touch users
Just got my 16gb ipod touch v. 1.1.2 yesterday and not to mention it is my first ipod or mp3 in my life and as i have received it yesterday, i even dont know what to do with it, i didnt even open the sealed celophane on that day that it arrive and it is just today that i opened it
hahaha
This weird feeling of having something that you never expect to be yours...
Anyways, im a totally newbie with the ipod coz as i have said its my first ipod or mp3 in my life.
now the question now is,
What's the first thing to do with the new 16gb ipod touch? (installers and etc)
or What have you done to your ipod touch when you received yours?
What i did already is, first thing first open the sealead celophane, hahaha
then i connect it with my macbook and register it in itunes, updated it to v. 1.1.4 and i have connected my ipod to our wifi already. 1 question regarding to this registration.
With this registration that i have made, is this the one that is gonna register me to this 1 year garantie for my ipod touch?
Another thing, i read in some threads here about this jailbreaking your ipod touch and a based in my understanding (correct me if i am wrong) jailbreaking your ipod can let you edit your calendar, let your ipod touch be like a pda and let you have some application that the iphone has.
questions:
What's the difference between ziphone and summerboard?
What are the application or the things that you have downloaded that maybe very useful to every user of the ipod touch?
for short, What are the things that i should download, jailbreak, customize and more???
all your post will be very much appreciated
thanks in advance

It's warranty, not guarantee. Firmware 1.1.2 already has the calendar edit capability already even without jailbreaking it. Basically you already have PDA functionalities on your iPod Touch but there's always room for more - jailbreaking. Let me remind you that jailbreaking will void your warranty. I suppose it would be better that you stick to 1.1.3 if you intend to jailbreak your iPod

By the way i have an update, i just updated my ipodtouch to version to 1.1.4 coz it was shown in my itunes so i just updated it. Is it bad that it aint v. 1.1.3?

there's nothing wrong with having the latest firmware, in fact, it is almost always good to have your gadgets updated.

1) The first thing I did was to jailbreak it. And then I bought a case for it.
2) Yes. Jailbreaking an iPod would let you install apps
3) Ziphone = unlocks, jailbreaks and activates iPhone/iTouch
while summerboard is the app that lets you customize your "main menu" in your iPhone/iTouch
4) The apps have been discussed in another thread already. It's up to the preference of the user also.
5) Download Ziphone and use it to jailbreak you iTouch. After that, download any app you want using Installer.app that would pop out of in your iTouch's springboard (main menu) after jailbreaking it.
Hope this helps.

Load it up with free podcasts (both video and audio) from the iTunes Store - Podcasts section. Podcasts are like TV and radio shows, iTunes will automatically download new episodes as they come out. If there's a subject you're interested in, chances are good that someone has a podcast on it. A lot of podcasts have great content and production value, much better than anything you'd find on TV now.

Re: What's the first thing to do with the new 16gb ipod touch?
first things first, decide whether you want to jailbreak your ipod or not
if you decided that you want to jailbreak, decide which firmware you want to use, i'll be giving you small details regarding different firmware jailbreaks...
1.1.1 FW - stable, lots off apps, lots of bugs, no feature on the calendar where you can add events, safari keeps crashing
1.1.2 FW - by far the most stable jailbreak of them all, in my own experience of course, lots of apps, bug fixes etc.
1.1.3 FW - some apps do not work, major bug fixes, FW i am currently using
1.1.4 FW - not stable, some apps do not work, minor bug fixes, nothing special really
to jailbreak 1.1.1 go to jailbreakme.com
to jailbreak 1.1.2 you need to have a 1.1.1 jailbreak and download iphuc
to jailbreak 1.1.3 download the lateset version of ziphone that works with a 16gb
to jailbreak 1.1.4 download the latest version of ziphone that works with 1.1.4
hope this helps you can use google to download these softwares
MacBook | 2.1Ghz Intel Core2Duo| 320gb | 4gb ram| Snow Leopard | iPhone 3GS 16gb | iPad 2 32gb
Nikon D7000 | Nikkor 10-24mm VR | Nikkor 50mm 1.8G | Nikkor 55-200mm VR

ahhhh now this things is a bit clear
i just jailbroke my itouch a few hours ago using Ziphone and follow the instructions in the thread cant jailbreak ziphone 16GB iPod Touch and i have done it in 4 mins
and i already bought the iclear skin but i think i still need to buy the case.
But guys, i thought at first that after you jailbreak your itouch, all the application will appear directly to your itouch, like mail, to do list and etc .
@Mocha.frap, would you mind telling me what are the installer that you installed in the install application and what are its uses?
(that would be really great)
Another thing, How come when i open my installer application and below the welcome message there is this "Known Issues" 1. Free spaces check/displays is missing 2. Refreshes may hang for a long time if a server does not respond 3. More info pages do not scale and 4. No Safari plugin yet. Do you all itouch users have this also? if not, how can i deal with this one?
A few hours ago also, i was scrolling around in the Install button in Installer Application and was experimenting
and i tried installing the following application:
BSD subsystem v.2.1, Installer 3.01 and Youtube Activator1.1.4 v 1.0-1.
Question is, what does this application does? how come if i click or touch the uninstall button in Installer Application this things comes out? can i still erase them if they are not that useful? how?
