Searched thru the forums and didn't find it so here goes:

Jim has some valid points, however, i would reserve my judgments when 3G iPhone comes out.

Yup, very interesting read. I wonder how the rest of the community would react to that article hehehe.

It sounds like a smear campaign to me. Reading between the lines, the nasty tone is unwarranted at this point. There is much pre-judgement in his tone of voice despite his statement to the contrary.

Re: Steve Jobs and the Great 3G iPhone Scam
its a hatchet job, if you ask me.
My only reply to that article is: if you want control your kid's
texting habit, don't buy an iphone for your teenager sons or
daughter. In fact, fiscally responsible parents should just buy
the cheapest phone with the cheapest plan
in the market. Its all about choices. No one, least of
all Apple, is forcing parents to buy iphones for their children.
Owning an iphone is not a right. Its a privelege.

Re: Steve Jobs and the Great 3G iPhone Scam
Aside from the new iPhone being 3G capable, how different would it really be from the classic iPhone?

Re: Steve Jobs and the Great 3G iPhone Scam
True, the upcoming iPhone 3G rates are more expensive than those for the original iPhone, but that's because users will be using 3G services. I would be more concerned if the telcos will be using 2 distinct rates: one for iPhone users and another for "regular" 3G phones.
Even if turns out that telecos will use a special rate for iPhone users, consumers still have the final say as to whether they will buy the iPhone. No one is forcing people to buy the iPhone. And some telecos have announced the plans that will be implemented for the 3G iPhone, so everyone interested in getting one knows how much owning one will cost.
It is only a scam if people are tricked or misled into getting an iPhone. I don't see any indication of either so far.

Isn't the come on "Double the Speed. Half the Price" misleading? People will surely get hooked and interested in this ad. I could imagine teenagers pestering their parents into buying a $199 3G iphone for them and saying that its cheaper than before. Of course parents will only realize in the end that they are actually paying more for the phone because of the increased rates.
