splitting a long mp3 into tracks
I've seen a thread where someone was asking if there is an app that allows putting mp3s together to one long track, particularly for mixed cds.
I want to do exactly the opposite. Does anyone know of an app that can take one long mp3 and split it into multiple tracks at user pre-defined points. I found an app called xmp3split but it can only split one track into equal lengths and does not take into account the point where the transition occurs between songs in the mix.
So for example, if I record an 80 minute mix into mp3 (using, say, audio hijack), is there an app that can take the 80 minute mp3 consisting of about 13 songs and split these 13 songs into 1 track each before I burn onto cd?
Thanks.

Hi zChris,
I would like to put multiple mp3s in to one long track. Do you remember the name of the thread?
I need some long tracks for iPhoto. When I want some nice music accompanying a long slideshow, the single track chosen to accompany it just repeats.
Happy New Year !

if you do a search, i believe the name of the thread is "continuous music" in the iMusic board.

I beleive Quicktime Pro can do both joining and splitting tracks.

in the PC i was able to do that using Cakewalk Pro and Sound Forge. so maybe you can find those equivalence programs for the mac. i'm sure it won't be such a hard time if you go to versiontracker.com and search.
thanks ditoy_eagle for this knowledge! he is my musical arrangement guru! if it weren't for him, i wouldn't know how to arrange on the computer at all!

it's called audacity and can join or split tracks - easy as cut and paste. get it at audacity.sourceforge.net. i've used it for basic track stitching and splicing and it does the job well enough
I think this is the one! Thanks.

if you are a windows user: guys, you don't have to download or look for other applications/software if you already have a windows xp. use the windows movie maker/windows movie maker 2. it can either put together tracks or even split them to whatever size or to wherever point in the song. you can save your file to a wma file; then convert them to mp3 or AAC using itunes. its actually very very easy.

In windows you burn one MP3 file into separate CD tracks in Nero. The file is not actually ripped apart but Nero tags and indexes it in such a way that when it is burned the file is separated into different user defined tracks.
