    rip DVD's audio to mp3

    hi guys,

just like to contribute this wonderful procedure i discovered on extracting the DVD's audio and converting them to MP3's.

this is best for those concert DVD's you love watching so now you can rip the audio and put them in your iPod.

found this procedure while browsing through the MacFormat UK magazine.

    2 utilities you'll need

    OSEx 0.0101b (free app)
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/9830

    mAC3dec 1.6 (free app)
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/10381

    procedures:

    a. load your DVD into your combo or superdrive and let it mount to you desktop.

    b. launch OSEx app. the app is a bit unpolished so it's a bit tricky procedure. first you have to determine to which title (Ti button) the main concert is located in. usually this is the title with the most chapters (Ch button. to extract all chapters (ergo all the songs) from the DVD, make sure all of them are checked.

    c. On the Vid button (Video stream), unclick it because you'll only be extacting the audio. Also unclick the options in the Sub button (Subtitle stream) because these are the subtitiles. For the Aud button (Audio stream), chose one audio stream only. Some dvd's have many audio options, i usually choose the 2 channel AC3 audio stream.

    d. On the Fmt button (Output format) , choose the Elem streams choice, on the Seg button (Output Segmentation) choose chapter.

    e. Click the Start button to start extraction and select to which folder you desire the save the files. The application will save the files in a funny filename on an AC3 format.

    f. After extraction of AC3 files, launch mAC3dec and add all the AC3 files in the File Menu. You have several output formats as choices (AIFF, WAV, MP3 etc). I choose MP3 for it's compact size.

    g. Launch iTunes and add to library these newly converted MP3 files. Organize the Artist, Album, Titles as you wish.
