Default Sound quality iPod vs iBook

Is one significantly better sounding than the other? Currently I am running the iBook through a headphone tube amp via an Analysis Plus iPod cable. I am listening through Altec IM716 IEMs. I'm thinking about getting an Ipod. Are the locally available ones gen 5?

Good thing bout an iBook is you can control equaliser settings manually in iTunes unlike iPod where you have to deal with presets.
