    Default Some Reason

When I plugged in my iPod today it got fried. You could see from th photos that the part of the board (which I suspect to be the power regulator) near the firewire port got toasted. I also found out that the hard drive is made in the Philippines.
Just found a reason to to replace my iPod with iPhoto.

I doubt it. It burned a hole through the board. I can try buying another busted iPod and swap the parts.

Power surge perhaps? Battery looks salvageable.

It is a 2G 20 Gigger thank God. Maybe it is really time for a replacement. But then again I expected a longer lifespan for an expensive toy.

I don't really know. But from expereience I haved seen and read about fried logic boards when doing a hot-plug with firewire. Firewire is not that hot pluggable after all.The advice is either to shut down or at least put your computer to sleep.
Now I know first hand.

Assuming the hard drive is ok you can probably purchase an enclosure from macpower, iogear, etc., for the salvaged hard drive. At least you'll have extra storage space.

    I guess that's why it's called firewire.... :P

If toshiba hard drives are used by ipods it's most likely made here in the Philippines. Toshiba has a big plant here. I think all the satellite notebooks are made here as well as other pcs/laptops and parts..... Produly Philippine made
