Default SMS woes with the iPhone

Apple seriously needs to add the following functions in its iPhone SMS application:

    1. SMS forwarding
    2. vCard support
    3. SMS templates
    4. Group sending
    5. cut/copy-and-paste
    6. 160-character counter or countdown (so the user knows how many messages worth a single send is)
    6. MMS (not as important as the above, but nice to have)

I'm hopeful Apple will soon realize that the above are necessary and basic functions of SMS, and should include them in a future software update.

Despite the absence of these basic features, I wouldn't give up my iPhone for any other phone in the market.

Maybe in the next gen iPhones these needs will be answered. Like in the other thread about the iPhone, the product was designed mainly for the American market. I hope their upcoming release in Asia would give them a clearer idea of what we really need in phones.

Still, it's a fabulous gadget. And knowing Apple, it will not stop there.

With AT&T rates favouring mobile to mobile calls than SMS, its not surprising..perhaps when NA do have an SMS culture.

Next gen? These issues could be easily remedied with a software update, and I would be rather surprised if they weren't addressed before the next iteration of the iPhone.

That's what I'm waiting for before even considering buying an iPhone (besides a better price and the ability to use it as a phone) Those functions are all available in my wonderful Treo650 already.

this shouldn't have been a problem if Apple were more open to third-party software development for the iPhone.

I agree. I think the Philippine market is more on texting rather than calls.

You know what? I migrated from a Treo 680, and a Treo 650 before that. As stated in the first post in this thread, despite the listed shortcomings, I will not trade my iPhone for any other phone. It really is that good. I'm actually happy to be rid of my Treo (mind you, I'm a staunch Palm supporter).

Then enjoy your iPhone. I'm still keeping my Treo650 until I'm satisfied with the features available in the iPhone no matter how good you say it is.
