Shuffle problem: error updating or restoring iPod
Hi guys,
The other day I purchased an iPod shuffle in HK and even tested it in the store to make sure everything was working fine.
When I got home, I plugged the shuffle in and decided to restore the iPod because it had been set up with the mac at the store.
When attempting to restore the iPod shuffle it gives me this error message: "error updating or restoring iPod."
Attempting to run disk utility's first aid on the iPod gives me this error: "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)"
What's going on?
I tried googling my problem and found this apple tech page: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300969
But it doesn't really help me much because I do have the latest updater and my iPod shuffle is already at versoin 1.1

The funny part about all this is aside from these restoring and running first aid on the shuffle, everything else works perfectly fine!

@danieldy
Have you upgraded your iTunes to version 4.7.1 and downloaded the latest iPod Updater (not the ones included on the iPod shuffle CD)?
Other reason would be, you're trying to "re-update" the firmware and not "Restoring" as you are claiming. "Restoring" is just formating the flash drive (nothing to do with the firmware of the device).
The last possible reason: You fired up the wrong iPod updater! **happens all the time**

Here\'s Another Shuffle Problem...
I got my shuffle the Friday it was released in MacWorld. Haven't had any problems with it except for the last couple of weeks.
This is really getting annoying already, for some reason, my shuffle just stops playing, even if the battery is charged. Now at first I thought I was pulling the earphone jack by accident thus pasuing the Shuffle. But when it was periodically happening, I figure something else must be wrong.
What happens basically is that the shuffle won't go on to the next song or stop playing all of a sudden. The green light keeps blinking when I try to forward to the next track or even to the previous track but to no avail. So I have to turn off my shuffle and then turn it on again then the music plays a totally different track.
It's happened over ten times during the last two weeks, whether I be on the bus, the subway, the gym, the shuffe just stops playing. And not at the end of the song only but even in the middle. Also, after turning it off then on, it sometimes begins playing at the middle of a song that I wasn't even listeing to.
The thing is, I don't even know how to explain this to the people at the Genius Bar since sometimes the shuffle works fine...
I'm pretty sure it's not the earphones because they're working fine...
Anyone with a similar problem?

Yup, I had that once before. You're sure you don't have any of this or this situation?

This might sound weird, but updating quicktime to its latest version fixed the bug. Now everything's ok

Quicktime is also the engine that runs iTunes.
Good to hear your shuffle got fixed.
