Should I or should I not wait for the iPhone to become legit in the RP?

Hi guys. I'm getting an 8 gig JesusPhone next month. I've scheduled it for next month even though I can buy one now because I still want to give myself time to think about whether I should wait for it to officially arrive in the Philippines or not. I don't want to have any regrets after buying something that costs well over P20,000.

But I wonder, will the iPhone even be released here officially in the first place? I have a strange feeling that this will never happen. First, we don't have a local Apple Online store in the Philippines and I don't think we'll be having one any time soon. Plus, our local carriers are small in comparison to the likes of AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. It seems really unlikely that Apple will choose any one from Smart, Sun, or Globe to be the official carrier of the iPhone in the Philippines. Plus, we don't even have official local Apple stores; the closest thing we have are the Power Mac Centers, but they're just resellers. Not the real thing.

So as it appears, we neither have the infrastructure nor the facilities that most of the countries with official iPhone sales have. Should I keep on waiting for an official iPhone release here or just go ahead and make the darn purchase? I'm feeling especially confident about the second choice because I know there are people like you whom I can depend on in case anything goes wrong. And of course, there's Google.

Your thoughts?

I hadn't noticed that other thread immediately. My bad. But the points there are mostly rumor and formulated gossip anyway. I hope more people can shed more light on this issue because this is very important, at least to some.

If you really think you need the iPhone now you should buy now. I just bought my iPhone last week because I can't wait any longer. I did not wait for the 3G iPhone for I can't see the need for a 3G iPhone now. When the time comes that the 3G iPhone would be released then I could just sell my current iPhone (or keep it) and add money to buy the new iPhone.

I think only Apple could confirm and debunk these rumors about the 3G iPhone being released sometime in June. Well, if it's true it is not only safe to upgrade right away without hearing reviews from other people regarding the product. So probably if the new iPhone comes out I'll be waiting for few months before upgrading. And probably the new iPhone would need a new way of jailbraking.

there have been a lot of threads about this and you can just dig up the iPhone subforum to see this asked over and over again.

but like a broken record, i say: no use waiting for the official philippine release. it WON'T happen soon. you'll end up watching everyone else in envy from the sidelines.
