Exclamation Ressurecting Music Library from iPod

2 nights ago, during a very careless attempt to transfer my iTunes folder to a new HD, I accidentally lost my music library. All album art, all tags, all playlists, ALL SONGS... gone. A very long story involving a great many tears.

My iPod luckily (or not) was sync'd an hour before the accidental "wipe." So now it's all I have to serve as testament to a time when I had a pretty kickass library on my mac...&I dare not connect it to any pc/mac, since I put my iPod on automatic update, and doing so may wipe my iPod CLEAN once I plug it in.

    Quite a pickle.

Then, yesterday, a friend told me something that showed me some glimmer of hope.
He said there's a way to get it all back - FROM my iPod!!
...& have it back on my mac as good as new!! Playlists, tags, art and all!

Is this true? If so, how?! Please tell me it's true...

** take note, my iPod isn't on manual - it's on automatic. & I didn't enable disk use. So I can't see how it's possible.

Try iPod.iTunes, which allows you to reverse-synchronize. Just to be on the safe side, create a new user profile and use that when running this software, so that you'll be running a clean copy of iTunes (new plist and new library folder). Running from your current home folder (since the iPod is in automatic) might erase your entire iPod's contents.

    You can also try PodWorks.

Thanks so much to all of you for replying. I checked out all of 'em...

As I type, I'm using a program called iPod Viewer. My sister uses it and vouches for it pretty confidently. Right now it's doing quite well (so far) transfering my songs to a folder, and pretty much as efficiently as the other programs promise (only free). I guess we'll see once the entire 20gigs are transferred then we'll see... I'll post back soon...

iPod Viewer works like a charm.

Though it didn't get my songs back on playlists, it can...kinda (it offers a feature that allows you to copy the tracks grouped to playlists, just not "AS" the playlists themselves).

But of course, I can do it myself, using my iPod as reference... BUT! Considering that I have my 20GB-worth of music, videos & podcasts - this is so much better than nothing. Whew!

Try running Senuti. It just might work but the problem is iTunes might kick in before Senuti comes up and Itunes might automatically erase the songs in the iPod.
If you have accesss to a windows PC try running it there with sharepod. Transfer the music to the PC hard drive and burn the songs to a DVR or CD-R . That'll be a lot of CD-R's though.

Please check out my earlier post. That's why I recommended an alternate user profile.
