    Default Released: 4th Gen. iPods

    4th Gen. iPods

20GB - $299 (dock and carrying case not included)
    40GB - $399

Both available in 1-2 business days if you order from the Apple Store. :-) And no anodized and/or brushed aluminum at the back, still the same dumihin polished aluminum found in the previous iPods. ;-)

UPDATE: USB 2.0 cable now included in the box.

Same height (4.1 inches) and width (2.4 inches) as the 3rd gen. iPods. Thinner by 0.05" (0.57" vs. 0.62" ).

4G 20GB iPod weighs 5.6 ounces, same as the 3G 15GB iPod. 4G 40GB iPod weighs 6.2 ounces, same as the 3G 20GB and 40GB iPods. Kinda surprising that there's only a negligible difference in size and weight.

Oo nga eh, walang balita. I reckon the new firmware is entirely responsible for the 50% increase in battery life, unless Apple decided to use more expensive, higher-capacity batteries for the 4G iPods (doubtful, hehe, may pagkakuripot Apple eh, hahaha).

Dunno pa eh but I reckon we'll see a number of reports regarding this in the next few hours/days. But since it's already available online, I'm guessing the Apple retail stores will have the 4G iPods in stock within the week. Pabili time na! ;-)

Default How \'Bout \'Em Froshie Blue Devils & Their New iPods?!

Freshmen orientation was never this good! If only we were getting our iPods the same way. Read on!

Duke to give incoming freshmen iPods
    By Peter Cohen, pcohen@maccentral.com
    July 19, 2004 11:20 am ET

On Monday Apple introduced its fourth generation iPod, a 20GB or 40GB model featuring the same kind of "Click Wheel" interface as found on the iPod mini. During an interview with MacCentral, Greg Joswiak, vice president of Hardware Product Marketing at Apple, explained that Duke University would be offering iPods to incoming freshmen. New details about the program have come to light.

On August 19, 2004, Duke University will be distributing 1,650 20GB iPods to all incoming freshmen during their orientation as part of an effort to "creative uses of technology in education and campus life," according to a statement. Another 150 are slated for other academic and support needs, and all of them become the property of their recipients. Computer ownership isn't mandatory for incoming freshmen, so Duke will enable those students to hook up their iPods to computers at labs around campus.

Take note: Neither model includes a carrying case with belt clip ($39) or wired remote ($39). I would expect the 40GB to have those two items as standard accessories, like the 3rd gen 20GB & 40GB. Bummer!
