Question to members with Globe iPhone 3G: how much is your monthly bill?
So, I got my iPhone from Globe and signed up for the cheapest plan (1599). For the first two weeks, I left the APN (internet.globe.com.ph) on and I used the phone as I usually would - P1,818.03 (for data charges alone) in just a matter of two weeks.
I thought that's an expensive proposition, and since I'm almost alway around a wifi spot anyway (in the office, at home, at the malls, coffee shop, etc) - so I decided I want 3G disabled. I changed the APN to a wrong one on purpose (changed it to apn.globe.com.ph - which causes Safari to prompt an error when you try to surf via 3G that says "you do not have a data subscription", or something along those lines.) So, at least i thought, that should disable the 3G (and keep me from incurring unwanted data charges). Since then, I've only used the 3G for less than 10 times, 15-minute sessions, and I changed the APN to internet.globe.com.ph every time, and changed it back to apn.globe.com.ph when I'm done using 3G.
Advertisement: I did some testing and noticed that if you leave the APN blank, it will still connect via 3G. Put in a gibberish value instead.
Today I received an SMS from Globe that my unbilled usage is a whopping P4,636.32
So I called customer service immediately and confirmed that the 4,6k is on top of the 1,8k from the previous bill. If I used up 15 mins × (1 hour/4 × 15-minute intervals) that's only less than 4 hours, and I should be entitled to 40 local hours.
I don't get it. Am I the only person who thinks there's something weird about how Globe computes data usage (link to my billing analysis blog post). How much are your monthly bills?
