Default Powerbook / FinalScratch User in Jaipur

I was in Prince of Jaipur last night/this morning (March 13, 2005) and saw the DJ spinning using his 12 inch PowerBook and, it seemed, FinalScratch.

    Are you that DJ?

    If so, a few questions:

    1. Are you using version 1.5 or 2?

    2. How is it? Are you happy with the performance? I heard that the version 1.5 had some latency issues.

    3. When is your next gig? I would really be interested to check it out as I have been wanting to buy the thing for quite a while now.

    Thanks.

FinalScratch is a hardware / software bundle used by DJs for spinning mp3s.

The way it works is that there is a hardware component that connects to your Mac via USB and, on the other side, jacks for RCA to connect between your turntables and your mixer.

The software component consists of an application that allows you to load mp3s in two virtual turntable decks on your Mac that you can then control using your turntables.

The user interface component consist of two records that look like regular vinyl but have timecode in the grooves instead of the actual music. The DJ manipulates the records like real records were being played but the music is actually generated by the Mac from the mp3 and played out onto the sound system.

Hmmmm... Where do you work? Can I get a job there too?

Seriously, where do you play? Are you still using it? Wanna have a look sana at it in action from behind the booth instead of in front of it.

It would be great to see Paul van Dyk again in Manila now that he is using Final Scratch Pro in his PowerBook
