Default Pioneer Ipod Adapter CD-IB100 announced

Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. on Wednesday announced its Pioneer iPod Adapter. The device enables users of Pioneer-built car stereos equipped with the IP-Bus system to connect their iPods directly to their car stereos. The interface is used in more than 3 million Pioneer car stereos, including all the new models the company is showing off at this week's International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The CD-IB100 interface is backwards compatible with Pioneer car stereos sold over the past several years. When it's connected, it enables users to access the contents of their iPod through the stereo's front panel controls. Depending on which Pioneer head unit you have installed, the system will display up to eight character lines of text including album, artist and song names, with more information available to scroll. The adapter also charges the iPod once it's connected. Select 2005 Pioneer audio video units also offer multi-line displays and list search capabilities.

Pioneer plans to release the CD-IB100 interface in March, 2005 with a suggested retail price of US$140. Its Web site did not include information about the new interface as MacCentral posted this article.
