    Hello, welcome to PhilMUG!

I think what you're doing is perfectly fine. I mean as long as the iPod preferences has "enable disk use" checked and as long as you unmount the iPod before disconnecting the cable, you shouldn't worry about anything.

i think as long as it is a data file (like mov, mpeg and etc) it would be fine. it supposedly (also) serves as a HD cum music storage. i work in tv... and i do that also like a USB hard drives only its a bigger version:P

I have transfered some files from my PB (before it died) to my ipod.
I still use my ipod as an external hd sometimes.

ipod not meant as heavy duty drive use - play a movie off it, etc

    heat issues = reduced MTBF

    pb

purely my own opinion, does not represent anything, etc etc

    mean time between failure

I use my iPod for storage, too. Only thing is, my files don't stay that long in the device. As soon as I get home, I unload the files and transfer them to my desktop.

By the way, I agree with polar bear regarding the heat issue
