a newbie's inquiry
hello, im planning to purchase an ipod video 60 or 80gb. Would just like to ask whether the ipod can be used like a usb flashdrive as well. Can i simply just copy my music files from the computer (windows xp) straight to the ipod without any hassle just like i would with an ordinary mp3/flashdrive? i hope you'll take time to answer, sorry if my question seems shallow to some of you. thanks alot

Re: a newbie's inquiry
Aside from being just a portable digital music player, the iPod is a storage device. That means it'll mount on your computer like a USB drive, similar to USB flash drives (the models you mentioned have a real hard drive in them).
You can load music files straight into the iPod without going through iTunes, but those files will remain just that--files. You won't be able to listen to them using the iPod, you'll just be storing them.
If you want to load music and listen to them on the iPod, you'll need iTunes, a free software available from www.ipod.com, which has both a Mac and a PC version.
I hope this answers your question.

As elbert mentioned, you'll get better response at our sister site, podcentral.ph.
But to answer your question: No you don't necessarily have to buy music through iTunes, you can rip your existing CDs using iTunes or if you already have them ripped, you can import them through iTunes. iTunes will then take care of synchronizing your music with your iPod.
There are other programs that can do this for you but using them is not recommended since iTunes is *the* way to manage music if you are using an iPod.
