New iPhone 1.0.2. upgrade to 1.1.1
Hi guys!!
Am a newbie just got my new iphone. Its firmware is 1.0.2
I am looking to buy anysim to unlock my phone. and at the same time I want to upgrade to 1.1.1 - what do I do?
How do I update my 1.0.2 into 1.1.1? I tried to doing this but I think it can only be done if you iphone is activated first. Or jailbroken.
Am I right that I should jailbreak my 1.0.2 first then update it to 1.1.1 via itunes then use the new Anysim 1.7 to unlock my 1.1.1?
Is this the only way to do it?
Thanks
Nino

Hi nino.
AnySIM is FREE. The time of other people unlocking your phone may sometimes not be. If your phone's still locked out of the box, you could just upgrade straight to 1.1.1 and unlock it from there. Please read through the earlier threads and you will have a pretty good idea on how to do the unlock yourself. If you're still clueless, you can contact one of the folks here in PhilMUG and they'd probably do it for you.

Re: New iPhone 1.0.2. upgrade to 1.1.1
Hi! That's my question exactly.
My phone is v1.0.2 and is still UNLOCKEd out of the box.
how do I upgrade to 1.1.1?
When I connect my iphone to itunes i have to activate the phone which means I have to go thru all the process of getting an ATT account etc etc.
How do I bypass all this and upgrade straight from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1 then unlock
thanks

Your phone can never be unlocked out of the box unless it has been unlocked previously then repackaged. Upgrading and restoring is done via iTunes.
Once you are in 1.1.1, you can begin the unlock. The steps are: Jailbreak, Activate, Unlock. Please read through the unlocking threads here in PhilMUG as most of the folks here have answered similar questions many times over already.

YES. I mean my iphone is COMPLETELY NEW. Still in box and still LOCKED.
My question is how to upgrade it to 1.1.1 in iTunes at its current LOCKED state.
When I connect it to iTunes, I go through the activation and ATT subscription plans etc. process which I cannot complete cause that would mean subscribing to ATT etc....
Is there a way to upgrade a NEW LOCKED 1.0.2 iphone to 1.1.1 without going through the itunes activation and ATT stuff?
I want to upgrade kasi to 1.1.1 first and then use the new 1.1.1 jailbreakme.com unlock method.
Been searching forums but I can't seem to find the answer to this particular question.
Sorry and thanks.

Jailbreak the phone and activate. No need to unlock yet. You can do that when you're on 1.1.1 already. The procedures are differ depending on your on OS. On a MAC, Independence is your friend. On Windows, it's the AppTapp Installer for 1.0.2 or iBrickr and PACAY. After that, connect to iTunes and upgrade. The phone will need activation again. Just apply the techniques for 1.1.1 this time around and you're good to go.

I think while your iPhone is connected to iTunes, you can just press the sleep and home button simultaneously until your iPhone goes into restore mode. Then it will ask you if you'd like to update to the new firmware without the need to jailbreak and activate first.

Nino - follow these steps since you are using 1.0.2
1. Use Independence to Jailbreak and Activate your iPhone.
2. Install SSH using Independence
3. Connect to wifi and get your IP address
4. Click the pre-update button using independence.it will ask you for the IP address and password (dottie by default)
5. Follow the rest of the instructions (in independence)
