mpc? flac? what's this?

hi my friend gave me audio files, but its extension is labeled as .mpc and flac, does anyone knows how to decode or make this work in iTunes?

Its a Musepack extension.

Download the decoder from the site.

You could also try mpc2aiff so you can play it in iTunes.

It's not a very common file,. so I could be wrong here. It could refer to Musepack files. Download that app to see if it decodes those files.

EDIT: From the Musepack site:

Musepack is an audio compression format with a strong emphasis on high quality. It's not lossless, but it is designed for transparency, so that you won't be able to hear differences between the original wave file and the much smaller MPC file.

It is based on the MPEG-1 Layer-2 / MP2 algorithms, but has rapidly developed and vastly improved and is now at an advanced stage in which it contains heavily optimized and patentless code

seems like almost everybody's glued to their sets to watch pacquiao, i got the free software already, just in case anyone's interested, its called FLACer 1.1

for flac to mp3 conversion, you can use this (MAX):

i've tried it and it works like a charm.

here's another program i downloaded but haven't tried (xACT):

for mpc files, i used mpc2aiff:
