Default MIDI recording & export to MIDI file

needed to record someone playing keyboard to a MIDI file. Used to be able to do this painlessly in Mac OS 9 with Trax, but this no longer works with OS X.

Tried a couple of programs like Lime and Melody Assistant, but tey don't record performances well as they are more notation than sequencing programs. Garageband can record well but cannot seem to export a MIDI file.

Is there any freeware or shareware Mac sequencing program that can do this well? I just need to use it for a week or two, thanks!

well, i finally found an OS X program, iPiano for my simple need: basically just record the performance of a keyboard player via MIDI, and export to MIDI files. I don't need a full-blown complicated looking sequencer like Reason or MOTU's Performer.

iPiano has a fully functioning 30 day trial period, and just in case, i can purchase it for only $25 online.

Sad if i couldn't find any Mac solution for OS X- i had already installed the ProTools Free sequencer on a PC just in case (the Mac version only works in Classic, and has no USB function).
