    Default mac musicians

is anyone here using their mac for music recording either proffesionally or just for fun? i've used acid rock on pc a few years back, and i'm interested in exploiting the potential of garageband, and it would help to have correspondence about it.

Hi there, I suggest you search thru our iMusic forums to find other music-related threads. For garageband, there is no dedicated users-thread for it. Search google, I think there are some.

Professionals use more advanced audio-music software for our requirements. Vic and Allan of Hit Productions use the most like Digital Performer, Logic, Pro Tools, etc... I also use Pro Tools with Ableton Live, Reason, etc..

Garageband is a capable software though, and basically free! Further exploration with that software can give you professional results easily.

I just installed the new version of Digital Performer (version 4.5) and it's SOOO nice. It's so inspiring to work with and is a lot easier to manage. I've been a Performer user for almost a decade now and this is easily the best version yet. However, it might be a little too intimidating for beginners... take the screenshot below, for example (my MIDI file for the opening credits of TV Patrol).

Kinda intimidating, huh? And there's even more on the other screen! (I use a dual monitor setup)

Still, you'd be surprised how much you can do on GarageBand that rivals stuff from even the big programs like Logic and DP.

I just checked out MOTU's website and read about Digital Performer. I also downloaded and tried Ableton's Live 4. Live is really cool and I can play any pattern anytime.

Does Digital Performer work in the same way as Live?

I saw a lot of videos on Live, but I can't seem to find any videos showing off DP.
