    Default iTunes won\'t install. Help.

    Hello everyone.

I just downloaded iTunes 4 installer, double clicked it but I got the error message "This software cannot be installed on this computer."

The following happened before i tried to install iTunes 4 which may have something to do with this error.

I already had iTunes 4 (and iPhoto 1 and iMovie 2) in my computer, which was upgraded from an older version by Softwarre Update. I then installed the upgrade CD (iPhoto 2, iMovie 3, and iTunes 3) for the iApps, which, after 2 years of just sitting there in the box, i finally decided to use. I wanted to upgrade my iPhoto anf iMovie thinking that since I have a later version of iTunes, the installer would just disregard installing iTunes 3. After that, iTunes disappeared from the Applications folder. I ran the CD again so that I'd still have iTunes before i get to completely download iTunes 4. It successfully installed iTunes 3 . Then I finished downloading iTunes 4, opened it, then the error message. Software Update won't allow updates for iTunes either. What now?

    Please help!

the reason you can't install is because the itunes helper is running in the background.

type into terminal ps -aux | grep -i itunes

then two entries should show up.. one in /Application... blah blah that's the one you want.

take note of the first number on the left side (right after your computer name)

    type kill -9 NUMBER

then you should be able to install itunes without any problems.

Do a search on the main hardrive for 'iTunes' and delete the files that you find. In the receipts folder you'll find itunes.pkg. Delete this as well. Re-install iTunes 4 and say a little prayer.
