    Default iPod won't mount

I was playing an Il Divo song on my iPod connected to an external speakers. Then suddenly, I wanted to hear Elvis Presley's version of Danny Boy so I took my iPod and pressed the wheel. Yikes! biglang nag-hang and kapita-pitagang iPod! I tried to manually reset it. But after the Apple logo was disappeared, a disturbing logo took its place, a folder with an exclamation mark on it. The exclamation mark itself seemed to tell me that something was wrong. Then I felt some strange movements within iPod. Parang may sumisipa at di masipa-sipa yung gustong sipain. With the strange movements came strange noises.

So I decided to connect it to my eMac. Since I have nothing but music in it, I decided to restore the software. Everything was ok on that part. But when I was already restoring the content, the process was sooooooo slllllloooooowwwwww. Two minutes have already elapsed and iTunes has just transferred 8 music files. My goodness, I have more than 5,000 songs to transfer! So I decided to quit the transfer and disconnect iPod. Surprise, surprise, surprise... when I plug in my iPod, my machine no longer recognizes it. Everything went from bad to worst.

This isn't the first time. Actually, what I have right now is already a replacement unit. I had the same problem last February. How unfortunate of me.

    Any suggestion? Comment?

Something must be wrong with the 4th gen iPod. Must be the reason why less than a year later, Apple stopped its production.

i just had the same problem... except after i tried resetting, my ipod kinda vibrated and the clicking sound got worse :P my ibook wasnt too successful on recognizing it (and i was scared of that vibrating hard drive, and the noise was just plain making me nuts!). so i packed it in its sock and headed straight to apple center.

i have no clue if it can be repaired though. they say they might replace it ... which may be good, but im quite attached to my baby and im having withdrawal symptoms already (

your ipod and mine might be wardmates as of now...

try to reset you ipod, i got the same problrm when my ibook wont recognize my mini ipod so i try to insert the ipod cd then reset the ipod (dont worry your songs wont be erased by resetting your ipod) . it worked for me . now i wont pull the plug w/o ejecting the ipod first.

My 4th generation 40GB iPod has undergone two replacements both because of the HDD crashing on both counts. Got them replaced via the Applecare warranty. Build quality just wasn't up to my expectation.

On the plus side, replacement units came fast within days after I surrendered it to Apple Center in Mega Mall.
