iPod Touch & iM7

The im7 altec lansing black speakers includes a video feature that allows you to display photos and videos from your iPod onto the television set while the iPod is docked into the im7. Unfortunately, when i connect the im7 speakers to my television set using composite (RCA) cable, i can't view anything. The im7 can be connected to the television using either composite (RCA) cable or S-Video cable. I haven't yet tried the S-video cable. What seems to be the problem? Is the im7 black only compatible with iPod video and not the iPod touch? But i could listen to music while my iPod touch is docked into the im7. How come the video is not working?

AFAIK, the new iPod lines (touch included) have a different video out system, rendering old accessories with video out capabilities (IM7 included) useless.

Which leads me to my question.. one of the things that is making me hold back on my touch purchase is it's compatibility with the inMotion iM7. I read your post but just want to really make sure.. can the iM7 play music when the iPod touch is connected?

yes the im7 plays music when my iPod touch is connected.. i hope the video will work too...

The iPod Touch, iPhone, Classic and new Nano all have a new type of video out that require the presence of a proprietary Apple chip before they will output video. Thus all non-Apple brand accessories that were developed prior to the current line of iPods that use the video out (such as many third party video docks, and the im7), will NOT output video from the new iPods. Audio out, however, works as before.

If you want to keep your im7 to play back video, your only option is to downgrade to an older video iPod. Even Altec Lansing's own page for the im7 shows that it cannot output video to the newer iPods.

bon, this is the newly released black im7 without the cradle. its not yet in the altec website for some reason but in some websites, its specs already shows its also made for ipod touch and iphones (saw them 2 weeks ago, cant find the website now). With the change in design, the absence of cradle, and the addition of ipod touch/iphone description, it is possible that video out now works. Since it is a new product (with the new name IM7 BLK, not IM7 anymore), maybe future reviews will reveal if it supports this. Its just weird why the altec website still doesnt have this. maybe the taiwan website?

This compatibility list from Altec Lansing UK shows that neither the im7 nor the im7 BLK are compatible with the iPod Touch. Note also that both models of im7 are unable to output video from the 3rd gen Nano or the iPod Classic.
