iPod Touch Battery Drains Too Fast?
Hey guys, I bought a new ipod Touch, charged it for around 3-4 hours, until it is fully charged. I then jailbroke it, and installed apps for like an hour and 30 minutes. After I'm done, the battery is already 1/2. I turned it off, went to sleep, and when i woke up, i opened it and the battery is now around 1/3. I played for a few minutes, around 30minutes, and now it is in red warning me the battery is low, 20%. Is this normal? How long does a jailbroken touch battery last? Assuming you play games, wifi, listen to music. Thank you.

Re: iPod Touch Battery Drains Too Fast?
An oem unit will last about 3 hours on wifi. Though I have never maxed and timed it properly. I did find that with a 20% batt charge warning I still get 1 hour 15 min. The best way to enjoy the iPod is charge when able and don't let the charge go down that it threatens your activity. I always keep it topped up. i also observed that no matter how low I set the screen brightness, the total runtime is the same. So I set screen brightness for visual comfort they way it should be. For some reason, the automatic screen brightness feature doesn't work the way I want it.

Re: iPod Touch Battery Drains Too Fast?
Thanks Mad Mac. I have a few other questions that I hope you can answer.
1. Whats OEM?
2. So using ipod touch for 3 - 4 hours is normal? Assuming Im not just listening to music?
3. So installing games via wifi consumes a lot of battery?
4. How can you explain that when I turned it off last night, its around 1/2 full, when i turned it on the morning, its around 1/3 full?
5. What would you recommend, turn it off or to sleep with the wifi off if im not going to use it?
6. OT: Is there anyway to kill/close an app? Or all you can do is press home to exit.
Thanks again! =)

OEM- Original Equipment Manufacturer. This simply means original factory state. Unmodified.
3 hours with wifi is normal on MY iPod Touch. With wifi off, I get a lot more runtime. I never bothered to time it because I see no point in torturing myself. I just enjoy the iPod. If the battery is faulty I will bring it to an Apple center.
In my experience, as long as wifi is turned on, the total consumption is the same no matter what it is I do.
Either you used Sleep to turn it "off" or the lithium ion polymer battery simply discharged normally. Sleep consumes power too although at a lower rate. The battery level also drops on startup. That is normal. Whether that is a calibration issue or real power consumption spike I do not know.

Re: iPod Touch Battery Drains Too Fast?
Thanks Mad Mac, those answers cleared alot. So i'd say 3-4 hours for a fully charged ipod battery to last is normal. One last question for now, hope you dont mind =) How long is the runtime of ipod touch if i just listen to music? I just wanna have a comparisson so I can atleast say that my ipod touch battery is not faulty. Thanks!
EDIT: On the apple website, it states that:
- Music playback time: Up to 22 hours when fully charged
- Video playback time: Up to 5 hours when fully charged
Is this even true? Thanks!

Re: iPod Touch Battery Drains Too Fast?
Yes. That's according to apple but in reality it varies. 3-4 hours of MUSIC only isn't normal but with WiFi internet browsing, battery would last up to 3 or 4 hours.

Re: iPod Touch Battery Drains Too Fast?
If your iPod can do 3+ hours of wifi, your battery is ok. To be honest I never timed my pure listening use because it deprives m of internet access and video use. Published times are always optimistic. Don't compare your times with it. If I may give a bit of advice, stop timing your iPod. Enjoy it and charge when able.

Re: iPod Touch Battery Drains Too Fast?
Thanks Mad Mac, I really dont time it, it just so happen that while working on my touch apps, i check on the time (clock) often because it is already late, so I know the time I spent working on my touch. Thanks for all the help and infos! =)
Good to know my battery is okay.
