Default The iPod Sock: hoax or real?

From the deadpan way Steve Jobs introduced the socks at the recent iPod launch, there's a LOT of people on the net right now that are still confused as to whether or not he was serious about them or if he was just playing the crowd for laughs before moving on to the main event (i.e. the iPod Photo and U2)

All I can say is, 1800 pesos for a bunch of socks is total highway robbery, and yet (fine, I drank the Apple Kool-Aid) I find myself ... strangely ... drawn to them ....

Who am I kidding. I'll just have ibugyellow crochet me a nice set hahah! Better than sticking ye old iPod into a smelly Burlington (with Norman Black's signature on it, no less)

Yes, it's confusing. As a local iPod distributor, all we can tell you is that the sock does not appear in the updated list of accessories. That doesn't mean the sock is not for real though. It could be a U.S.-only issue you know.

Hmm, ibugyellow, I'll take a green one please.

Even if it is a US only issue, it doesn't appear on the Apple Store (I know, I was searching for it earlier today). More fuel for the "hoax" theory.

I think Apple will sell them for real. Trying to be cute and having a little fun at our ($30) expense! Still, people will buy these socks, if only for the novelty and humor of it. It would definitely be a pleasant surprise to find one in my Christmas stocking!

Or even better, to find one as your Christmas stocking!

    Sorry, couldn't resist

Funny, an officemate is going to HongKong and I told him to get me the socks. Unfortunately he is leaving tomorrow and it won't be available 'til mid November.:P

I'd be surprised if they actually come out. With all the useless accessories available for the iPod, Steve could not have chosen a better setting to share his amusement.

Nice sock. But I've been using the iPod case with belt clip and it can sometimes be a hassle having to pull the ipod out of the case to work the wheel when you don't have the remote control. I've just placed an order for the iskin evo2. You get protection and easy control of the wheel without having to take the ipod out of the case. I do like the cuteness of the sock though. Probably for people who go around with backpacks or shoulderbags. Otherwise, if you have the remote, it's a great buy!
