    Default iPod Shuffle error

Just bought an iPod shuffle last month. Last night I was downloading & installing the update for the shuffle when my internet connection was cut-off (dial-up). When I was able to connect again and re-downloaded the update, iTunes says "cannot upgrade because the firmware is corrupt." Tried restoring it but received the same message "cannot restore because the firmware is corrupt." Tried it several times but ganun pa rin. The shuffle is ok though.

I bought the shuffle from a friend who bought it from the states. Please help.

    Thanks very much.

Have you tried the Shuffle Reset Utility?

Read the instructions on the Apple Support page here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303979

I have a 1st gen Shuffle and had some problems with it (though not the same as yours), and managed to get it reset via the instructions above.

    Good luck!

Tried the Shuffle Reset Utility a while ago. But it's for 1st gen pala. So I wasn't able to fix it. Btw, I re-installed iTunes earlier this week pero ganun pa rin. Still receiving the error notice. worse thing was I received a new notice saying " cannot write to the disk." But when I checked, there were several songs copied (300mb). Then tried again, still received the "cannot write to the disk" thing. When I checked, mas marami na yung nakopya (800+ mb).

    Please help!

    Thanks.

Kapatid na Gie, you can bring your iPod Shuffle to the Apple Sevice Center in P. Guevarra San Juan for check-up. They accept Ipod repairs. If you have the receipt from your friend the better. Did you register this unit online? Anyway, the Apple guys will have their way of checking if the unit is still within warranty so the service will be free.
    Hope this helps.

I tried looking up your error on the Apple support pages, and I came back with this page:

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304309

According to the article, the problem may be your firmware file, and not the iPod itself! Seems to be consistent with how you described your problem. Since your download for the firmware update was interrupted, the message seems to indicate that the problem is with that file, and not your iPod.

Follow the steps listed above. It lists out what you can do to delete the update file on your PC/MAC before you can attempt to re-download the update file.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Yup. When my wife synched it with her iBook, there was no problem at all. And then when I synched the shuffle sa PB ko, ayaw pa rin. But when I deleted the file (music track) na ayaw mag-sync and that caused the sync to hang, nag-fill up ang shuffle. Akala ko ok na.

But when I synched my Ipod video, ayaw din. Kapikon kasi 4 times ako nag-sync w/ the iPod video tapos ang dami ko dinelete na file every time na nagsa-stop mag-sync. Eh wala pa ako sa two hundredth file (out of 2,000 plus files) sa iPod video nung nag-hang. So tinigil ko na lang at nagpunta na lang ako ng barberya para magpagupit.

But I will try your (and Lakan's) suggestions and if ayaw pa rin, well... bahala na si Batman. He he.

    Maraming salamat mga kapatid.

Thanks for the help. My iPod shuffle is ok na. I'm using it to test the playlists if some of the tracks were afftected or corrupted nung nag-crash yung iTunes ko before.

Cause my iPod video still is experiencing technical problems with syncing the playlists.

    Maraming salamat ulit sa tulong.

    Hi people,

My iPod video is working normally now. Sorry for the late post/update.

Had to transfer the songs manually last night 'coz tried again to sync automatically but failed (again). I had to identify the songs that were corrupted when my iTunes crashed before so had to do it one by one. Apparently these songs were the reasons I get those warnings: THE IPOD CANNOT BE WRITTEN TO..... But now that CARMEN (the name of my Ipod video) is working, the almost two hours of transferring 2,000+++ files last night were worth it.

Thanks again to chmod_777 and Lakan for their help
