Is it really that expensive to replace that battery?

The guys who made the video pulled the trigger too early. They got what they wanted (publicity) at the expense of the iPod (batteries don't last forever anyway). Lots of reasonably-priced replacement batteries available from vendors like iPodBattery.com and PDASmart now.

This has already been discussed in another thread. I just can't seem to find it right now. Anyway, the conlcusion of that thread was, all gadgets with internal batteries will die sooner or later. The iPod is no exception. Its battery life span should last well over a year. Thats already very reasonable compared to other gadgets. And Apple has already provided a solution in the form of the AppleCare Protection Plan for iPod.

Like I tell everyone who asks me about this issue - you can't seriously expect the batteries to last until kingdom come, right?

If you buy a cellphone, do you expect the LiIon battery to outlive the phone? Or buy a car and expect your tropicalized Motolite battery to last forever. Saan ka ba nakakita ng equipment na ganun?

Sooner or later that thing is going to give up the ghost. It's just unfortunate that it is expensive, but that is quite literally the price you pay for a gadget like that. Besides, its not as if the iPod will be rendered completely useless after the battery dies; like Henjie said, there are a lot of battery replacement kits and options available for it.

I really think that this whole thing is a non-issue. And an old one at that, as Kenneth pointed out.

yup. i agree with you guys on this issue or non-issue. was just a little shocked about the price. i guess, by the time na namatay na ang battery, may bagong model na rin anyway! parang camera!

They were lucky that Apple Legal didn't sue them for destroying Apple property (the posters). To think that their own video would have been enough to convict them, hehe.

The video was made and first shown last year (November) but up to now, I still hear people saying "mabilis daw masira ang iPod", etc. etc. 'coz someone they know saw that particular video. Sad but true.

My 3 year old iPod's battery outlived the hard drive nga e. I could still squeeze out 6-7 hours before it's death.
