Typical life of an iPod battery is around a year, maybe more. It can be replaced if your warranty is up.

A friend of mine recently was handed down a 3rd gen iPod by his brother. Unfortunately, the battery doesn't get good mileage. In fact, he claims that if he runs it continuously it can only last 3 hours. If he fiddles around with the menu while using it then he only gets an hour out of the iPod's battery. The unit itself is no longer covered by the warranty and although I know that you could have the battery replaced in the U.S. I'd like to find out if someone does it here in Manila. In the U.S. it's $99 + $6.95 (shipping cost). Is it cheaper here perhaps?

Is it ok if i wait 11 months (just bought my 1st gen Mini last week) then have my unit/battery replaced by Apple? SInce i have 1 year warranty (bought my unit at electroworld) would htis be a good idea?

If i buy Applecare, this would extend my warranty to 2 years? or my original 1 year warrant + 1 more year?

    gulo ba?

OT: congrants to maverick for your 1000th post, mine is less than 10 hehehe

    thanks p3rsmag...

oops... my mistake total of only 2 years after all

i don't think apple would replace your battery if it's still working ok after a year (of course depending on use).

    iPod's AppleCare is only additional 1-yr ( 1 yr standard + 1 yr AppleCare = 2 yr warranty)

    This is quoted from http://www.apple.com/batteries/replacements.html:
Your one year warranty includes replacement coverage for a defective battery. You can extend your warranty to two years with AppleCare. During the second year, Apple will replace the battery if it drops below 50% of its original capacity. If it is out of warranty, Apple offers a battery replacement for $99. Apple disposes your battery in an environmentally-friendly manner.

i use a mini (1st gen), so that would mean if it plays less than 4 hours straight (ouch) i could have it replaced na.
