Default iPod the new "CD" - Exciting possibilities!

I hope this prediction by Wired.com comes true, recently cleared to happen by the recent Apple-Beatles settlement. I did not know that Apple has been prevented from selling songs preloaded in iPods because of the old prohibition.... now that roadblock is gone. There is rumor of a special edition "Yellow Submarine iPod" with Beatles songs in it - cool!

I don't get it the "...But most exciting, there may be a whole range of dirt-cheap iPod shuffles branded by artist, containing their new albums or portions of their catalogs." concept.

What would I do with a bunch of shuffles, each one branded by artist? Isn't consolidation to single device the point of a high-capacity iPod? I hated CD's cause I had to carry a bunch of them around just to listen to all my music. Sure the quality was great, but in terms of portability, the high capacity MP3 player is just so much better. Why go back to this model?

i agree with chmod, same reason why the first mini disc did not fly because it aimed at selling albums, but the later they changed their model to be able to use the disc to load a 'collection' instead.

I guess a nice feature after this is being given the 'option' to pre load an ipod with stuff you buy with iTunes. Another feature that will be nice if apple loads it with a "free sampler".

Of course this assumes we increase apples business by buying more in iTunes.
MBP 2.16Ghz C2D & I am happy with it! Keep cool & God bless.
