Default ipod frozen when cable is connected

    Hi folks,

I've got a problem with my 4G iPod. Everytime I connect the firewire cable to charge it, it freezes up. The unit does not charge, none of the functions work. However, the very second I remove the cable, the unit starts working fine again.

Anyone have experience with this kind of problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you have a USB cable, can you try with it as well and let's see if it will still manifest same problem.

Had the same problem when I used a third-party Firewire cable (my iPod Photo comes supplied w/ a USB cable only). Used an Apple-supplied cable from an older iPod and the problem was resolved.

hmmm.. unfortunately, changing firewire cables didn't help (tried both my brando retractable and apple's). neither did diagnostics.

Have you tried other firewire pheriperals on your PB? maybe your firewire port has a problem, coz as youve said you already tried changing the cables. Does your ipod work with the USB cables?

Can you hear clicks from the unit? The disk might be hosed.
