Default ipod classic 120gb = photo storage device?

    Hi guys.

I have been putting off my ipod purchase for quite a while already. I always felt I needed more justification than just for plugging it in my car's head unit. Don't get me wrong, I like the ipod, I just wanted to have enough reasons to spend my hard earned money on it.

I am a photography enthusiast and our family goes out of the country for vacation at least once a year. During that time, I would like to use my ipod (fine, its not mine yet) as a photo storage device.

I've done a few searches here and found out that Belkin Media Reader can be connected to 3g, 4g and 5g ipod to transfer images from CF card to ipod's harddisk. Question: Can I connect Belkin Media Reader to the new ipod classic?

I am also open to other suggestions if there's anything else besides Belkin Media Reader I can use.

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    Mark

P.S. I am not really sure if I should post this here or in iPhotographers.

Well my friend, with regards to your question, I suggest you try the iPhotographers
link... You'll definitely have more chances of finding the people there using Apple
devices with regards to photography... ^_^

Well, if your looking for reasons to buy the iPOD Classic, let me suggest some:
1.) Just like you and your family, my family and I love going on road trips, well,
technically you move out of the country, anywayz, this is why the iPOD Classic
would be a great companion along the trip. You'll have music, videos, photo gallery,
and much more with the iPOD...
2.) The iPOD Classic will be a great storage device, with 120GB of storage, you can
literally carry your computer with you, the data I mean... hehe...

I have bought my iPOD Classic 120GB just this month, and it was my first Apple
gadget, and it really is worth my hard earned money... I am a student by the way
so earning money is really really hard... hehehe... but it was all worth it...
I even waited 3 months before the purchase, I had to research after research to
convince myself that it was worth buying... hehehe..

Anyway, I hope I helped in some way or another... Take Care... ^_^ God bless!

You'll need a mini pc or any other source to transfer all of that to iPod classic, nonetheless, it's still a great photo storgae device companion. Surely, when you have an eee pc, it's a real photographer's lifesaver!

The iPod Classic won't work with the Belkin Media Reader, nor will it work with the Apple iPod Camera Connector that I use with my 5th Gen iPod (the first one with video).

There are many 3rd party hard drive enclosures with card slots that allow you to directly transfer photos to the hard drive within the enclosure. I've seen a few on sale at tipidpc.com

@pmcdriver: Thank you sir, that's a lot of reasons to think about. Will keep that in mind.

@rdy0329: I don't like bringing a laptop on vacation. Makes me feel I brought work with me. Haha. But hey, thanks.

@bon: Awww, man. Looks like I'll be needing CDR king's photobank after all. Thank you sir.

yes a portable device is a more practical choice in storing photos. Remember altho the ipod CAN be used to store data, it was made to store and play media files first and foremost

one of the reasons i bought the 160 gig ipod classic is to store data too, but i eventually bought a 2.5" external drive with enclosure.
