iPod charging question
Would there be any conflicts if I charge my iPod even when there's still let's say...30-40% battery left? I've been doing this for months, since I can't leave my iPod without an empty battery, and I consume around 60% of the battery in a day.
I mean, would there be any future problems if you charge it a lot?

Nope. Even it does some damage, that'd be good in a way 'cause if you're still within warranty, you can have it replaced with a brand new unit.
FYI, if you find your iPod doesn't hold its charge like it used to, try fully draining it and then fully charging it 2 or 3 times to "condition" back the battery.

I have a question too.
Whenever I charge my iPod - 3G 20Gig via FireWire.. it heats up a lot. Also I noticed that just yesterday even after a couple of hours of charging the batt indicator of my iPod read zero! I was able to use it for a couple of mins before I got the message that I need to charge the iPod. Tried charging again via FireWire for about 10 mins and it the battery indicator did have a slight charge after I removed the FireWire cable.
Right now I'm charging it with the iPod power adaptor and sure enough it doesnt get as hot as before. So what gives? Is it safer to charge it with the Power adaptor instead?
I havent pulled out the power adaptor yet, I will in an hour or two.
TIA.

I have also resetted the Ipod a couple of times... no dice. Should I format the iPod?

when you charge via the firewire connected to your comp. the ipod's disk spins thus making it hot. When you plug it in through the power adaptor the disks dont spin so it stays cool.
After charging play a few songs and you'll notice the battery indicator go up

Yup my iPod has now been charged fully as the batt indicates.
The battery did go up after I have taken out the charger cable and played a couple of songs.
Whew! I almost thought that I was gonna buy an iPod battery overseas.
But still... why did the iPod indicate a empty charge after charging it via firewire? Still I'm happy she's fine now.

I really wouldnt know about the firewire charge issue, i personally dont recommend charging via firewire all the time coz it keeps the disc drive in the ipod spinning. and from what i've read thats not a good thing. Only use the firewire plugged into your computer when ur doing stuff on your ipod, or when its an emergency and you really need to charge.
Its normal, all 3 previous ipods i owned did that. i think everybody's ipod does that. when you play songs after a charge it takes some time for the battery indicator to go up. No explination why but thats just the way it is.

I read an article before stating that iPods have lithium ion batteries that should be charged before they are fully drained. It is not healthy for the battery to be fully drained. This would be something like car batteries come to think of it. If i recall it right, the site is www.batteryuniversity.com . Check this out. Some useful info on batteries.

If it gets hot while charging, it's likely that the iPod is mounted on the system as a hard drive, in which case it will really get warm. Just unmount it and leave it connected and you'll experience a cooler iPod while it charges.
Here's another question: does your iPod quickly drain its power if you turn off your Mac but the iPod is still connected?
The ones that I've owned, from my 1G to the 4G do, and I'm wondering why this is so. The other night I connected it to my machine to top up, and when I left the next morning I forgot to unplug the fully-charged iPod and bring it with me - when I got back later in the evening the iPod was near dead. Duh.
Seems like an uncharacteristic Apple oversight, if you ask me. And I wonder why it has to happen. Does the cable leach out the power or something? Or is my machine at fault (it's the only constant in all the equations)?
