There are cheaper chargers available that I've seen which you can connect the USB cable to, but they tend to be the no name generic brands. To protect my investment I shelled out for the Apple branded one. I wasn't going to buy a new iPod and lose it to an el cheapo charger. It's worked perfectly for the 2+ years I've owned it and it's now being used with my 4th iPod (1st Gen Shuffle, 5th Gen iPod 30GB, 2nd Gen Nano, & 2nd Gen Touch). If you get one that's not from Apple, make sure it's from a company like Belkin that is known for making iPod Accessories.

There's always the alternative of just keeping it hooked up to your computer to charge it, and it costs nothing.

I second that. Someone gave me a generic charger that worked on his MP3 player but didn't work on my 5th gen iPod 80GB. It toggled continuously between charging and not, i immediately took it out and threw it out the window.

I eventually shelled out 2K for the Apple-branded one. When i bought my iPhone 3G, it came with another one. I also have another one that came from the APC Mobile Power Pack [not Apple-branded though, but also worked].

Usually this happens when the charger doesn't have enough amperage to charge the iPod. If you are looking at a non-iPod branded charger, look for one that outputs at least 1000 mAh.

Hmm... I saw some iPod wall chargers selling at around P700 to P800 at TPC. They're also from people who directly import iPods from Singapore then sell it at a very reasonable price that is much cheaper in stores (like iPod Nano 4th gen 8gb for P6.5k and 16gb for P8k). Any clue if they're original? How can I be sure that it's original or not?
