For those of us who have been wondering about the iPod Camera Connecter, Apple executive Greg Joswiak in an interview with CNET revealed a few more details into the the optional accesory.
The camera connector, Joswiak said, is a small white plastic device, similar in appearance to a small docking station, that has a cable for connecting to the iPod and a USB port for connecting to a camera. It will work with both the new iPod Photos and with earlier photo player models, Joswiak said.
Does this mean the connector will work will older iPod photo models? That means getting the downpriced iPod 60GB with all the accessories would be a steal.
Oh and yeah, check out the whole CNET article here.
What could be the reason for the discounted prices of the 1st gen iPod Photo if it doesn't have any difference from the new ones? They could have sold it as the complete pack version and the budget pack version. Unless there's more to it than just the bundled accessories.

It's probably just because they're giving people more flexibility to buy accessories that they actually need. Since FW isn't standard in the PC world yet and even for PC wintels that have FW, it's of the Sony FW cable variety...(I forgot what the standard Sony FW cable is called...) it made sense to make it an optional accessory instead of a necessity. And I do know some people who could live without a dock. :2cents:
Apple Insider released what is supposed to be a photo of the camera connector. It is from part of a keynote slideshow shown during a product presentation by Apple in Japan.
The iPod camera connector made a quiet appearance on the apple store today. Apple is now taking pre-orders. The site confirms that the connector is compatible with iPod photo 30, 40 and 60GB models. I am a bit concerened though about this part which says, "See www.apple.com/support/ipod/photos for supported cameras." I followed the link couldn't find any info yet, though I would assume that my Canon Powershot S50 should be supported.
I was fiddling arounf with my iPod last night and noticed something interesting. If you check under settings and menu access, there is a new menu available to turn on. The Photo import button. I would assume that this is for that connector.
