Default iPhone in UK not yet 3G (merged)

The iPhone release in UK is being announced right now in London. Steve Jobs is there as well as the CEO of O2, their partner. Sorry no 3G yet till next year.

Default CONFIRMED: iPhone for UK still not 3G

iPhone handsets that will be released in UK will still use EDGE network.

    In his Steve's keynote:

Steve: "The 3G chipsets are real power hogs. Handset battery life cuts power to 2-3 hours." Yeah yeah, we've heard it before. "Our phone has a talk time of 8 hours and that's really important when you want to use your phone for internet and music. 3G needs to get back up to 5+ hours, something we think well see later next year. ... WiFi is way faster than any 3G network. Energy efficient EDGE with better, faster WiFi. That's why we chose it."

I guess we still have to wait until next year for 3G iPhones.

And the winner is......O2, the official carrier/partner. Vodafone exits gracefully, good thing, there's the hacking method. The choice is still open amongst the subscribers.

November is still way too long for those eager, itchy hands.

Very little for sure, with thr obvious EN_UK dictionary

My favorite line is "We're investing heavily in EDGE"...in an age of mainstream HSDPA and looming HSUPA

But thats understandable - Apple will piss a lot of customers if the 3G/HS iphone came out
