I think its probably some dead spot on that area if your iphone works in other area.

I know in the UK, some SIM like 3 network doesn't work on unlocked iPhone. My friend was baffled when he was using his 3 network sim on his iPhone and it didnt worked but works on other networks.

3 network in UK is UMTS only, I guess, more of the same like if you try uMobile sim with iPhone Classic unlocked. No signal

try changing your simcard to a 64K or higher, i think it has something to do with 32K sun on fw 2.1.. I could be wrong though but a friend has this problem (incoming and outgoing call failed, text in and out ok) and his problem was fixed by doing this.

I have the same problem with my iphone classic and suncell. Whenever I'm in the Rosario, Pasig area and some parts of Marikina near Marcos Highway, my iphone can't make and receive outgoing and incoming calls but sms works properly. But outside of the areas mentioned, no problem. This started about two months ago. I got fed up complaining and just bought a 2nd hand cellphone with a smart sim. Just diverted all incoming/outgoing calls to my smart number when I'm in Rosario.
