    Default Iphone Plug Explodes

from "Wiretapp_md" of Applei.ph an intern (or resident?) Doctor of PGH

This is my first time to post here. Thanks to xxxxx for extending all his help in unlocking my globe iphone 3g and giving me a crash course xxxx

I got my Globe 16gig iphone 3g last Sunday morning. Sunday night, I decided to charge the phone before going to bed. I removed the clear plastic cover from the adaptor, attached the usb cable to it, then proceeded to plug it in my wall outlet. This wall outlet is what I regularly use to charge my cellphones, ipod, AA batteries, etc. There were no other accessories plugged to the socket. As I was plugging in the adaptor, I heard a loud "bang" then all the lights in my condo unit went DEAD. I then smelled something like that of post-firecracker explosions. Since it was totally dark, I grabbed for my flashlight right beside the counter and shone it on the socket. True enough, there was soot covering the socket and around the iphone adaptor. I proceeded to locate our circuit breaker and reset it so that the lights would come back on.

This is how the adaptor looked:

The whole adaptor was covered with soot so I tried to wipe some of it off to inspect it further. No melted parts naman. Tried shaking it and I could hear some loose components rattling inside.

Good thing I didn't plug in my iphone yet.

Well, I was pretty lucky that it spared my left hand. This morning, I went to globe business center in robinsons ermita and gave them the adaptor for replacement. They readily accepted it and swapped it with a brandnew adaptor and usb cord.

if circuit breaker explodes, that would be worse.. in this case, the plug exploded

This happened to me the first time I charged my iphone. It tripped the circuit breaker to that outlet. Globe replaced it the next day and so far so good...I posted it here somewhere.
