Iphone available locally by 1st quarter of 2008?

Hi fellow philmuggers!

Last saturday, me and my girlfriend went to the powermac center at greenbelt 3 to inquire about macbook air on when will it be available locally, the sales lady told us that it would not be arriving soon and that the iphone might come first. She told us that the iphone will be arriving at the first quarter of this year and there is still no news on the telecom carrier. All she said that it would be open-line. hmmm....you guys have any idea about this?

sounds like pure speculation....i doubt that apple resellers would have access to selling stuff that even in the U.S. was restriicted only to "REAL" apple stores and AT&T (it's telco partner)

i could be wrong of course but i don't think the sales lady knew what she was talking about...

you can also search for "asian release" using the search function in the forums so that you can see what others think of an upcoming asian release

Pure speculation...Apple has never offered a legal, first-option open line iPhone in any country so far, so it's highly unlikely they'd do that here. It's always offered it in tandem with a telco, so this makes that even harder to believe.

Get your iPhone if you really want it, by the time the "asian" release comes out (if it ever does) iPhone 2.0 would already probably be released in the US

It could be equivalent to the unlocked 999 Euro iPhone being sold by T-Mobile in Germany (also 749 Euros by Orange in France). If so, we'll be paying a premium for it.

i heard from the reseller where i got my macbook that it would be available by june or july of this year.

yes offcourse. apple will not force you to sign the contract to AT&T

The current price is 399.00 ++ i assume...
