iPhone in airport/airplane
I overheard someone say that putting your iphone (electronics) through the xray machine will actually damage it (lessens the lifespan of the unit), is this true?
*
I read somthing about putting your iphone on airplane mode while in the air is not allowed.
Has anyone tried out airplane mode before?

This may be because some flight attendants aren't aware that some phones can still run without turning on the phone feature.
Once during a flight, I turned on my Treo 650 to go over some memos and play a little sudoku afterwards. Naturally, I only turned on the Palm OS; not the phone radio. The plane was already cruising by then. A flight attendant then approached me and said that using a phone during a flight is not allowed. I had to explain it to her twice (complete with a small demo) before she finally got it. Good thing we were on Business Class then so she was savvy enough not to make a scene. Still, she apologized profusely after that.

Not sure about this but i've flown four times with my airplane mode - never did I encounter this scene from a flight attendant... my iphone went through several security airport checks - nothing abnormal happened afterwards...

some airlines do ask any smartphone user to turn the phone off and not just in airplane mode during preflight. I remember taking that flight from Northwest Airlines.

there was a trip when the flight attendant advised me to turn off my o2 atom life as we were in mid-air and i was busy browsing some notes then. even if i explained and even showed that the phone feature is already shut off, still, she insisted that i have to put it off. oh well, i simply touched the power button just to kill my screen but in reality, it's still up and running. it's also amusing to know that my phone will only be off ultimately by removing the battery. hehe!

At least the flight attendants are asking you to turn off your phones. On most flights I am on, they ask me to turn off my iPod!
