    Wink iPhone 3g sales status

What is your opinion regarding Globe's sales status regarding the iPhone 3g?

Based from the current price, do you think that:

Globe has(or will) reach it's expected sales on iPhone 3G considering a lot of people think that the iPhone is overpriced?

or has(or will) Globe's sales on iPhone 3G drop due to the price point?

I think Globe has reached it maximum sales, they can't even get a decent number of stock with all phones going to new subscribers.

It will reach the maximum sale expectation IF they released it for all loyalty customers.

speculations are more practical in the stock market because you can at least place your bets on what might happen.

what good is it for us to speculate on whether globe will hit its target, or whether the prices will drop? will you give us call or put options? hedge funds, maybe?

you might find your answers in another speculative thread about "what if iphone 3g is on smart"?

@rbenzon.....so I take it that you play the local market? Are you in, out or in-between?

I agree that it is too early to speculate as to the sales numbers. I don't believe Globe will even disclose that even if they have some hard numbers.

If globe will hit its target sales, then it will be good for their income for the 2nd half of the year since they did not do well on the 1st half. That may help raise their stock value.

hehehe. i used to do technology investing, but with private equity, not with public stock. we (private investor's money, not mine) even invested in smart, before pldt bought them out. but mobile operators are generally the same, and i understand their model, structure, and operations--which is why, i guess, i don't jump to conclusions are hastily as average consumers, which is understandable naman.

would i buy globe stock based on iphone sales? nah. the philippine mobile market is near saturation. all operators are scrambling to find growth. it'll be a down year for all, except for maybe sun, which probably has not clipped 10% market share yet, and their arpu is probably in the $5 range, or less.

bottomline, iphone3g is an investment more than anything. if singtel didn't jump on it, i doubt globe would've. my guess is globe just tagged along. 3g will help globe more in perception than in the bottomline. iphone 3g represents an infinitesimally small blip in their balance sheets. it's more porma than a plug in the proverbial hole in the dam. so don't expect a radical shift in iphone pricing or data plans.

as we pinoys say, "asa ka pa."

though they wouldn't confirm any figures, my sense from what i got during the iphone presscon was that globe was expecting to sell around 5,000 units this first wave. still not much by any standard. as rbenzon says, it's really more to shore up globe's reputation as the "in" telco, rather than its bottom line.
