    Default iPhone 3G Battery Life

In today's Inquirer, there's an article that states: "Yes, the latest incarnation of Apple’s mobile device, the iPhone 3G, lasts for only half a day (or just a few hours if you’re a heavy user) on a fully charged battery. And since it does not have an accessible battery compartment, you won’t be able to replace the drained battery with a new one, either." http://technology.inquirer.net/infot...-iconic-status

So far, I'm getting a full day's battery life with usually about 1/4 left, and that's with occasional surfing on both wifi and edge/3g, about 2.5 hours of iPod playing, SMS, some calls, and some games. How about other users, are they seeing"only half a day" or more?

I'm using my iPhone 3G heavily with constant wifi when I'm home or in the office, and occasional 3G/EDGE/GPRS when I'm out as well as heavy texting. However, I don't run into battery problems. Admittedly, the bar runs at around 25% when its time for me to charge at night.

Amazing that he gets 36 hours standby time but having wifi, 3g off is a bit extreme. I'd probably resort to those if I'm on a trip and for some reason couldn't easily recharge. He also mentions he had to return a unit because he was getting 5 hours standby time, maybe that reporter from Inquirer should have his unit checked.

When you charge, but not fully charge it, it won't reset the counter. Try it! The only time it will reset is when 1.) you turn off and turn on the phone 2.) restart springboard 3.) fully charge it.

In my experience (this is my 4th iPhone), battery life increases over time. The more you charge, the longer it lasts. IOW, it stretches after many charge cycles. I'm not going to post my battery life until next week. I've only charged once so far.

oh! You can also extend the use time easily. By playing your iPhone's iPod for 24 hours while the screen is turned off. Usage and stanby will increase.

In my experience, it's because you use it alot the first time, so you feel the battery doesn't last that long. But when you use it a lil less everyday for regular stuff, it will really just feel like an average mobile phone's battery life.

Do we need to calibrate the battery too like our macs? That is, run the battery down to zero and then charge fully?

In my experience, it doesn't help. In fact, I've seen cases where the iPhone would not charge again from a dead state. Not worth the risk. Just charge away and top off when you can.
